We brought the Greek Olympic games to the middle school this year after the 7th graders finished their studies of the Greeks and all of their contributions that continue to influence our world today.
Core one classes were grouped into six different city-states; Athens, Argos, Corinth, Megara, Rhodes and Sparta. The day started with the lighting of the Olympic flame. followed by a number of events that celebrated, like the Greeks, a value of physical fitness, strength of mind, spirit of community and friendly competition, and the arts.
Our 7th graders then made connections with senior citizens when they took a trip to the Perry Senior Center.
One of the most satisfying aspects of the Olympics was the show of enthusiasm, participation, team work, positive attitude, support for peers and overall great entertainment.
