Congratulations to Athena Chongris, Jovie Hartmann, Cora Jones, Heidi Mann, Isabella Morvilius, Makenzie Morvilius, Charles Pomfret, and Claire Royko who were accepted into the prestigious Ohio Music Education Association All-State Children’s Chorus!
Students, who applied last May, had to consistently demonstrate above average singing ability in music classes and exhibit the work ethic and stamina necessary to endure lengthy choir rehearsals. In addition to teacher recommendation, applicants auditioned by submitting a recording of two vocal pieces, sung acapella, to be reviewed by a board. Chorus members were chosen from a pool of applicants from all over the state of Ohio.
One-hundred and fifty students participated in three regional choir rehearsals. Then, on February 3rd, they combined at the Columbus Convention Center for a full day rehearsal with a guest conductor, Tom T. Shelton Jr, Associate Professor of Sacred Music at Westminster Choir College. They performed that night in the Regency Ballroom during the OMEA Professional Development Conference.
