5th grade students listed ways they could connect with and make a positive impact on our community. They used students' ideas to create a grade-wide philanthropy project with direct ties to the 5th grade curriculum called Cookies for a Cause. Students brought in favorite holiday recipes from home and scaled their recipes using fraction multiplication in math class and worked to hone their public speaking skills language arts.
Students brought in batches of their cookies last Friday to be donated to 15 community organizations and local first responders. Fifth grade families delivered trays of cookies along with student-created holiday cards all around Perry. PSL student, Ava, also helped to deliver cookies to Project Hope and Forbes House.
