SAVE ACT

Ohio’s 133rd General Assembly passed House Bill 123, the Safety and Violence Education Students (SAVE Students) Act, mandating a multi-agency approach to school safety. The SAVE Act mandates that students in grades 6 through 12 receive evidence based instruction annually in each of the following topics:

  • Suicide awareness and prevention
  • Safety training and violence prevention
  • Social inclusion

6th grade students receive this instruction via the ambassadors training program hosted by our school guidance counselor and Crossroads Health. They utilized a program titled SOS. Students in grades 7-12 receive this once annual instruction from the NAMI organization and the program they use is titled End the Silence

Students may be excused from this instruction upon written parent/guardian request. Opt-out forms may be returned to your student’s guidance counselor. Click HERE for the opt-out form.

ERIN’S LAW

Ohio’s 134th General Assembly enacted Senate Bill 288 which updated the prescribed curriculum for health education, adding requirements related to child sexual abuse prevention, dating violence and sexual violence prevention. Visit the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce website regarding this law and its requirements. 

Erin’s Law mandates that students in grades grades Kindergarten through 6th grade receive developmentally appropriate instruction in child sexual abuse prevention. It also requires that students in grades 7 - 12 receive developmentally appropriate instruction in dating violence and sexual violence prevention education.

KDG - 4th grade students will receive this once annual instruction from the school guidance counselor Mrs. Gall using a Fight Child Abuse lesson. Students in grades 5 - 6 will receive the same instruction from Mrs. Cuevas, the guidance counselor at PMS. Students in grades 7-8 will receive this instruction from a representative from the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio. Additionally, their instruction will include social media and digital world navigation. High School age students receive dating violence prevention education from WomenSafe.  

Upon written request of the student's parent or guardian, a student shall be excused from participating in this instruction. Opt-out forms may be returned to your student’s guidance counselor.  Click HERE for the opt-out form
