Cold & Flu Season Is Here

Message from our District Nurse, Susie McKoon:

The flu (influenza) is a contagious illness that can be severe. We have also had several cases of Strep and pneumonia reported in the district. Please contact your doctor if you have illness symptoms. Here are a few tips that can help prevent the spread of illnesses:

  • Get the yearly flu vaccine, if possible.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you’re sick, stay home and keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes: Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or your upper sleeve or elbow if you don't have a tissue.
  • Handwashing: Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing, before and after preparing foods, and before eating. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.
  • Keep hands away from face: Keep your hands away from your mouth, nose, and eyes.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that may be contaminated
  • Wash utensils and plates: Wash glasses, utensils, and plates after someone who's sick uses them.
  • Avoid sharing: Avoid sharing eating utensils with someone who is sick with strep throat. Don't share water bottles or toothbrushes.
