This course is designed to introduce the students to all phases of the journalistic process. Emphasis will be placed on the major types of journalistic writing, including, but not limited to, reporting (news and sports), editorials, feature writing, and commentaries. The course will also introduce the students to the basic publishing concepts, such as layout, copy, type, and preliminary newspaper production skills.

This course will include organization, graphic design, editing, publishing, layout, copy writing, marketing, legal issues, and sales in conjunction with the basic experiences in journalism. As students will rely on computers and appropriate software applications, basic computer skills are expected. The culminating activity will be the “Treasure Chest,” the Perry High School yearbook. Yearbook II, III, IV is for editor positions and is done through application.
