Middle School band students will learn a variety of musical genres and gain the foundation and skills necessary to be successful in performance music at the high school and beyond. This class will meet every day with some concerts and activities occurring outside of the school day. Students may participate in both Band and Chorus.
Middle School chorus students will learn a variety of musical genres and gain the foundation and skills necessary to be successful in vocal music at the high school and beyond. This class will meet every day all year with some concerts and activities occurring outside of the school day. Students may participate in both Chorus and Band.
Students will be introduced to the basic principles of music through the use of the ukulele and possibly acoustic guitar. Students will learn to play basic songs as well as how to care for the instrument. Students will study basic rhythms as well as a few chords. This is a hands-on class with emphasis on each aspect of playing the instrument.
5th Grade Art Curriculum Overview
During their 9 weeks in the art room, 5th grade students will enhance their skills across various art media. They will experiment with different techniques while creating art that highlights the elements, including line, shape, color, form, space, value, and texture. Students will investigate concepts like symbolism, abstraction, and the relationship between art and math, as well as art's role in expressing emotions. They will also share their artwork, articulate their creative choices in writing and critiques, and provide thoughtful feedback to peers.
6th Grade Art Curriculum Overview
6th grade students will investigate how artists convey meaning and style in their works. Through research, experimentation, and reflection, they will discover how various elements of art create different effects. Students will create their own art emphasizing these elements while beginning to learn about design principles such as movement, unity, and contrast. They will analyze and interpret artworks based on context and mood, present their creations, and provide constructive feedback to peers, revising their work based on critiques.
7th Grade Art Curriculum Overview
7th grade students will study global art through research and hands-on projects. They will examine the links between art, history, social and cultural identities, and personal stories. By exploring different materials, students will learn how art reflects and shapes beliefs and values within communities. They will assess artwork based on various criteria and analyze its intention and mood. Students will showcase their creations, curate collections, articulate their artistic choices in writing and critiques, provide constructive feedback to classmates, and make revisions based on peer reviews.
8th Grade Art Curriculum Overview
Eighth-grade students will explore careers in the arts through projects that reflect their interests and demonstrate key objectives. By creating and studying artworks, students will examine how art influences beliefs and values within communities. They will assess artworks using established criteria, develop their own standards, and analyze media for intent and emotional impact. Students will showcase their work, organize collections, articulate their artistic choices, provide constructive feedback to peers, and refine their pieces based on critiques.
